The Bank of Montreal (BMO) was the first bank in Canada. In 2009, BMO purchased AIG Life Insurance Company of Canada, including its 400,000 customers and 300 employees, making BMO the second-biggest life insurer among Canadian banks. The new constituent was later renamed to BMO Life Assurance Company. Today, it offers life insurance, accidental and illness insurance, creditor insurance and travel insurance. As of 2013, the Company had total assets of $542.0 billion.
