The Ontario Equitable Life and Accident Insurance Company was established in 1920 in Waterloo, Ontario. During the Great Depression the Company launched an inexpensive family income policy offering security to families for difficult times. In 1936, the name changed to The Equitable Life Insurance Company Canada and in 1963, it adopted a mutual ownership structure.
The company continued to expand with acquisition of the Group Life and Health business of the Allstate Life Insurance Company of Canada in1994 and Metropolitan Life business from Clarica Life Insurance Co. in 1999.
Today, Equitable Life is one of the largest mutual life insurance companies of Canada. The products offered by Equitable Life are term, whole life and universal life insurance, critical illness insurance, health and dental insurance, disability management solutions and retirement saving plans.
